Our Misson
We work to protect open land in South Burlington
Our mission is to preserve the open land, wildlife habitats, natural resources and farmland that make South Burlington unique. We believe that undeveloped land benefits the health and prosperity of all South Burlington residents, and is an essential part of the fight against climate change.
Our Priorities
-
Identify Valuable Natural Resources
We support findings of city consultants such as Arrowwood in identifying and protecting the valuable natural resources in South Burlington (wildlife corridors and connectivity, waterways, fields and forests, etc.).
-
Protect 25 High Priority Parcels
We support the findings of the 2020 Open Space Committee Report in identifying 25 high natural resource priority parcels for conservation.
-
High Density in the Central Core
We support greater density in highly developed areas close to the central core and in the transit overlay districts.
-
Low Density in the SEQ
We advocate for lower density housing in the Southeast Quadrant.
-
Re-Development
We advocate for re-development of abandoned commercial spaces for housing.
-
Preserving Farmland
We support preserving our natural farming heritage
How We Work
-
Advocate
We advocate before the city and participate in planning and development review activities, in support of land conservation measures and policies
-
Educate
We raise public awareness about the benefits of land conservation, and provide information and resources to land owners and residents regarding the value of the City’s natural, conserved and agricultural lands.
-
Collaborate
We work with other land conservation organizations and surrounding communities to preserve open land, and provide grants to organizations whose mission aligns with ours.
“As a family of 5, we spend a significant amount of time in our city's open spaces and waterways. These places have been critical to our family for both our physical and mental wellbeing. Open land is an invaluable asset to South Burlington which will benefit both my family and future generations who call this lovely city home."
